MEDCOT Métodhologies durable pour la rehabilitation et la valorisation
du littoral côtier

MEDCOT (shortened form of "MÉTODHOLOGIES DURABLE POUR LA REHABILITATION ET LA VALORISATION DU LITTORAL CÔTIER") is a project recently funded to the Municipality of Castelvetrano under the promotion of sustainable development (ENPI CBC Italy-Tunisia 2007-2013).
The general goal is to contribute to the recovery of altered costlines with environmentally sustainable interventions.
The project partners are: the University Consortium Province of Trapani, the Municipality of Hammam-Lif (Tunisia) and the "Faculté des Sciences de Bizerte" of the public University of Carthage (Tunisia).

The key points of the project

The project MEDCOT falls within the objectives and priorities of the program, as it promotes, through a joint program, an action strategy for the protection and sustainable development of coasts, promoting economic development of local communities, to program a concrete revival of tourism activities through the use of the coastlines.

  • International synergy

    Thanks to a dual approach and a synergistic sharing of technical and scientific skills, it will be possible to find the best solution to the common problem.

  • Respecting the ecosystem

    Intervention methods aims, on the one hand, the removal of Posidonia from the beaches with low environmental impact, on the other, its enhancement by transforming the stranded Posidonia into a resource for the territory.

  • Revival of tourism activities

    The mission is the requalification of coastlines to give the beaches back to the users and promote the economic development of local communities

The project MEDCOT falls within the objectives and priorities of the program, as it promotes, through a joint program, an action strategy for the protection and sustainable development of coasts, promoting economic development of local communities, to program a concrete revival of tourism activities through the use of the coastlines.
